“I have spent the majority of my life investigating the relationship between the brain and the body and have always felt the significance of their integration.
Through my work, research, practice and study, I have discovered that mindfulness and creativity are crucial for sustaining individual and global wellbeing.”
– I aM Nkechi Deanna Njaka
I am a neuroscientist, choreographer and meditation guide in SF. I am the founder of NDN lifestyle studio, co-founder of Sitting Matters, a 2017 YBCA Truth Fellow and an upcoming 2020 Kennedy Center Artist in Residence. I am also an SF lululemon ambassador for my work in mindfulness. A bit about Me— I have spent the majority of my life investigating the relationship between the brain and the body and has always felt the significance of their integration.
I attended Scripps College in Claremont, CA where I majored in neuroscience and dance and went on to complete an MSc. in Neuroscience at the University of Edinburgh.
Through my work, research, practice and study, I have discovered that mindfulness and creativity are crucial for sustaining individual and global wellbeing.
Right now I am excited about collaborations that intersect art and wellness, I enjoy seeing clients 1:1 and doing fun wellness and mindfulness activations with brands I admire and are in alignment with.
When not publicly speaking on mindfulness, guiding people in wellness or somatic practices, I am the co-host of the podcast Dating White and the other 1/2 of the music and mindfulness project RESONANCE. Nkechi also enjoys travels around the world (pre-pandemic) with her creative partner and best friend Anna-Alexia Basile to make art.
I created The Compass to design a comprehensive resource for an embodied practice with presence. I feel as though so much of mindfulness meditation can afford to lean into the body and what she is saying to be leveraged as a tool for deeper understanding of oneself. Body literacy is an effective way to manage the anxieties that linger when we haven’t or are unable to meet ourselves exactly as we are. Somatic practice is our vessel for this journey. It is equal parts mindfulness, movement and meditation library that can be accessed anywhere at anytime.
The Compass— a membership based community and digital library for embodied intuition + applied mindfulness practice.
