the RENEWAL at Haramara, Sayulita Mexico

Welcome to The RENEWAL.

a 7-day retreat, hosted by Nkechi Njaka and Liz Andolong

The Renewal is equal parts guided practice, community contribution, autonomy, self-expression, and freedom— located at the gorgeous eco-resort Haramara in Sayulita, Mexico.

re·new·al

/rəˈn(y)o͞oəl/

noun

  1. an instance of resuming an activity or state after an interruption.

We can all agree that over the last 21 months a lot of life and life-interrupted have happened. Whether it was our favorite studio closing, moving to virtual classes, friends and loved ones moving away, job and opportunity loss, or finding ourselves rebuilding our wellness community— we have all been impacted by the constant changes and loss that the Pandemic has brought.  While we are still very much still in it, and adapting to the loss and reconfiguring of life, we feel hopeful that we can gather again in ways that feel nourishing, connective and communal. We all need spaces to release, to reset, to recollect, to remember and to renew.

In the summer of 2020, my dear friend and colleague Liz Andolong decided to gather a few of our practitioner friends (as COVID-safely as possible) for what we called a “Practitioner's Retreat” to share practices with one another as a way to be in community and to also practice a more democratized way of “being on retreat.”

We felt RENEWED.

We created an incredible peer-to-peer container and as a result, this idea of gathering space holders to contribute to their retreat experience was formed.

Let this be a reminder that Community sustains us and that we have so much we can offer one another.

ON RETREAT.

Over the seven days at Haramara, we will each participate in creating a container that is collaborative, autonomous and non-hierarchical— meaning that we are extending the opportunity for guests to contribute an offering for everyone to participate and benefit from. We believe that while structure often provides freedom and that we can all learn from one another, it is also important for guests to make choices that feel correct for them so attending every practice is not required. As hosts, we will be supporting the flow of offerings and placement for each practice.

This retreat includes 3 daily wellbeing practices that vary from meditation, restorative, and self development. These offerings will be taught in combination by retreat hosts and retreat participants. The myriad of offerings shared within our practices are meant to deepen our knowledge of self, to restore our beings, and to encourage our curiosity through other modalities that will support us in the process of cultivating stillness and ease within.

With three fresh, nourishing meals per day in open-air cabanas nestled alongside the Nayarit coastline, the sea, the sun, and the jungle might be exactly what is needed in order for renewal to happen. Receive bodywork from some of the most amazing healers on the continent and fall asleep to the sound and smell of the ocean. If this sounds like where you want to be, we want you to be there with us!

Please join us in this intentional space to expand and explore what it means to create RENEWAL in the unparalleled and gorgeous natural setting of Haramara.

The Art + Science of Embodied Presence: Mindfulness, Movement + Music

The Art + Science of Embodied Presence: Mindfulness, Movement + Music

The Art + Science of Embodied Presence is equal parts science and art, grounded in reflective and exploratory mindfulness practice and contemplative, creative process.

Connection has taken on a new meaning as our world gets increasingly more tech/device-dependent. However, when we are not connected to ourselves, we cannot be in a significant, meaningful, and present-moment relationship with others, or for our communities.

In this new, immersive multidisciplinary workshop, we will embrace how radical presence, the experience of being fully connected to oneself and self-expression, is needed for our individual and collective healing. We each have access to embody presence by living life NOW—expressing the self fully from the heart with tenderness, love, and honesty.

The Art + Science of Embodied Presence is an experience designed for connection with intention, meaning, reverence, vulnerability, and care. By engaging in neuroscientific and somatic approaches to the mind and body, and by practicing creative and contemplative mindfulness, together, we will embark on an embodied journey towards healing through meeting the self in presence— the Truth of who we are.

During our time over the weekend, we will:

  • Learn the latest science and scholarship on mindfulness, embodied cognition, and presence

  • Engage in creative contemplative practices related to dance, improvisational mindful movement, authentic creative expression and collaborative performance

  • Cultivate a practice of radical presence, awareness, wonder, and awe of ourselves and the environment we exist in

  • Self-study through stillness, writing and creative dialog/collaborative storytelling.

  • Deepen the connection to self and others through self-expression

  • Experience the practices with a live accompaniment from Grammy-nominated multi-instrumentalist and song-writing musician Tauwoo

Join us in this intentional space to expand your mind, body, and heart in the unparalleled and gorgeous natural setting of Esalen and Big Sur.

About Esalen

Esalen is a not-for-profit holistic educational center offering wild comfort and space for emergent transformation and internal exploration since 1962. Anchored by the inspiring beauty of Big Sur and incomparable intellectual history, we are always negotiating nuance, tangling with complexity, and sitting inside contradiction. All the while, we embrace the messy, imperfect practice of moving toward our highest humanity. Enter where you are.

About Tauwoo, guest faculty + experience accompaniment

As a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Tauwoo dives deeply into the emotive world that a song or vibe has to offer. His sound is diverse drawing inspiration from West African, Middle Eastern, and Indian rhythms as well as bands like Radiohead, Photay, Anderson Paak, Bonobo, and Patrick Watson. He loves collaborations with other creatives and strives to express an emotion in its purest form be it for a brand, a film, or his personal work.

Tauwoo is the other 1/2 of the music and mindfulness project RESONANCE that he hosts in San Francisco with Nkechi Njaka. They also collaborate on choreographic and music video projects when inspired.
